5:20 in the morning, and just getting back from Baltimore. I'm beat, but I figured I'd throw a few words down at least. A lot of the rookies played today, and they definitely contributed to the win, which was a nail-biter in the end. John and I have visited Camden twice before: once to see the Yanks play which I mentioned in the last blog, and another time when Baltimore was playing Tampa Bay, and we had decided to do a 2 day road trip to Baltimore and Washington to go see the Nationals their first year there.
You would not have believed how many Yankee fans were there. We definitely outnumbered the O's fans, at least on the upper level. Three quarters or more of our section were Yankee fans. Jorge was one of the few veterans playing, and we got to do our signature cheer for him, the "Hip Hip Jorge!"thing. For some reason my voice projects well, so I do the "Hip-hips," and John and whoever else wants to join in do the"Jorges". I don't exactly remember when I started doing it, though it's been years now. Our section at the Stadium is great, and the regulars all help out with the cheering. There were a few detractors today: a fat lady on my left yelled shut up, even though she was a Yankee fan, and a fat Oriole fan on the right of us said "he's gay" after my hip hips. Can't let the haters throw you off. A lot of people in the crowd joined in, and there was a really nice family from Maryland behind us who were Yanks fans, and they had a little kid who got all excited and started to cheer too, at his first baseball game. Got a nice round of applause after the second and third times, which was nice.
A Boston fan, came up to me in the ninth, held out his tray and said, "Here's your heart" when it looked for a sec like the bullpen was going to blow it again. But it worked out. I don't really get why Boston fans go to such great lengths to hate the Yanks. I actually respect their team a lot. It's the fans I'm not enamored with usually. Except for Curt Schilling, who never shuts up, their team is respectable at least. While there definitely are Yankee fans who hate the Red Sox, and it's always fun to do "Boston Sucks" chants as you're leaving the stadium, the Boston fans seem to take and make it much more personal.
We went out to go hang out a little bit at the bars before heading home. So many Yankee fans again lol. Actually met someone from Eastchester, which is like 10 min from where I live. They had a ice sculpture shaped like a beer bottle, that you could pour drinks through to chill it, like a ski bar. I did half a beer, and it was COLD. Lots of pretty girls, but no luck tonight, though we both had some nice conversations with people.
Anyway, I need to get some sleep. I'm sure I'll think of more to add tomorrow. See ya.
