Willie's firing and other thoughts

In regards to Willie Randolph's firing, all I can say is what a crock of bullshit that is. That ballclub has no heart, and it's not the fault of the manager, it's the players on the club, and the general manager who put them together. If you look at the Met's roster, how many of those players would you pick if you could make your own team? I can think of 4, AT MOST who might make a 25 man roster. David Wright, Johan Santana, John Maine maybe, and Jose Reyes maybe. The rest of that team, you can think of at least 5-6 other players in that position, if not more, that you would prefer before the corresponding Mets player. A radio show a while back tried making up a starting lineup and rotation out of current Yankees and Mets. Suffice it to say, not many Mets made that roster.
Making Jerry Manuel the new manager is pretty much not changing a single thing about who is in charge, except that you have a Hispanic manager instead of an African-American. I really wonder if that has anything to do with the personnel change. Regardless of how people might dispute this, it's obvious that Omar wants a primarily Hispanic roster, and gets Hispanic players that no one else would sign because he thinks their common background will be enough to make a mediocre player better. Who in their right mind would sign Luis Castillo to a four year contract? Other busts along that vein: Beltran (his contract is so not worth his production), Delgado (he sucks post-roids more than Giambi does. At least Giambi gets on base) , Moises Alou (whose position is DL), Jorge Julio (only good thing to come out of that was John Maine), Guillermo Mota, Roberto Hernandez, the third and fourth years of Pedro's contract, El Duque whenever he is injured, which is most of the year. The list goes on and on.
If anyone should have been fired, it should have been Omar, who put together that $138 million payroll of mostly suck. I'm usually not a Met hater, but I hope the rest of their year is tanked, and that Omar gets the ax at the end of the year.
Blaming Rick Peterson when he has probably done wonders for the young guys on that staff? Expect Oliver Perez to regress even more now, and I wouldn't be surprised if John Maine and Mike Pelfry become less effective too. Blaming the first-base coach, Tom Nieto for players not playing to their abilities? I find it extremely unlikely that the firing of a FIRST-BASE coach will have a huge positive or negative impact on the team. Does anyone even want to mention that Willie Randolph didn't pick his coaches, that upper management did it?
And for the Dumb ass Mets fans who thought Willie had no fire in him, and needed to be shown the door? The ones who call up sportsradio at 3 in the morning, making no sense whatsoever, but hating on Willie for no good reason? Just remember, you reap what you sow. Phillies and Braves will be 1 and 2 in the division. Marlins have a shot at the 3rd spot, if not higher. So the Mets will be fighting to get out of the cellar with Washington. And I wouldn't be surprised if Washington pulls a fast one and comes in fourth. THE Mets SUCK. They are the Knicks of baseball.
I should at least mention the Yankees, since this is supposed to be a blog about them, shouldn't I? At least the Yankees are starting to pick things up offensively, though Wang out till Sept. really blows. I'd like to see the rookie pitchers step it up a little, but they have not lived up to expectations at all this year. I think a little more seasoning at Scranton for all of them would be for the better. Hank blaming the NL for Wang's injury? That is pretty sad. Even George knew to shut up every once in a while.
