Random thoughts of the day

I was just listening to Michael Kay interviewing Billy Wagner on ESPN Radio, and Kay asked him the question of if Wagner thinks Mets fans unfairly compare him to Mariano. Wagner said that to even being mentioned in the same sentence as Mariano is an honor in itself. He said that he doesn't even compare, that he hasn't been to a World Series, and he hasn't pitched in enough playoff games to know if he would be good there. Kudos to Wagner for being man enough to say that, since he is a great closer in his own right. I've always had a soft spot for Wagner myself since we're fellow dippers, but my respect for him grew after that. When he was calling out teammates to perform, though I didn't think it was good to do in public, I did agree with him that no one on his team was holding themselves accountable for the miserable performance the Mets had in the first half, which led to Willie's firing.

Second topic really quick, because it doesn't even need much of a discussion: Barry Bonds. The Yanks don't need him. As Michael Kay pointed out accurately:

1. Yanks need a right handed bat in the outfield. Bonds is left-handed, is not a good defensive outfielder, has bad knees, and is left-handed.

2. Bonds is only a DH now, and the Yanks have plenty of those. While he would be a presence in the lineup, the Yanks are already top-heavy in lefties, and it wouldn't help in the later innings where another team can just bring in one pitcher to pitch to the Yankees lineup.

3. Not to mention the total distraction he would cause in the clubhouse with the media and the steroids backstory.

Last point for this, which is my own, he shouldn't be able to put on a Yankee uniform. With Giambi at least, he was at least apologetic about it, and that is why the fans still embrace him. Bonds has shown no remorse or any admission to anything. I don't want someone like that on my team, who I would feel compelled to cheer for. If anything I would probably boo and start a "Steroids!"or "Big-Head Barry" chant. A great player, but I don't want him. I can barely stand A-Rod, and he's half the douchebag that Barry is.

Last thing, since I need to go out tonight =p, ESPN Radio Sportscenter had a very brief interview with Carlos Delgado about why he's been so hot lately. His quote was "AHH, I been hitting the ball good, aaaaaaaa" and they cut him off. LMAO. He's an idiot.
