So many things happened this past Sunday that I know I will forget to write about something. If that something involves anyone who is reading, my sincerest apologies. John didn't feel up to barbecuing, so we grabbed some wedges, snacks, and brews for the parking lot. First thing I noticed right away that there were some type of park police in the lot, which never bodes well. Not a single barbecue was going either. We ate our wedges, and poured our drinks into "go" cups, though I'm not sure how much that helped since they were clear =p. I saw a girl get a ticket for drinking, so I figured we needed to be careful. To make a long story short, John starts pouring, doesn't see the cop coming from behind. Ticket for John. Sucked since it put him in a mood for the rest of the day. What was cool for me was that I ended up seeing an old friend, Colm, parked about 5 cars away with some of his friends, and it was just great. I have bumped into someone I know every single time we have come to the Stadium this year.
We get in the Stadium. Since we didn't BBQ, we didn't have any burgers and stuff to share with our favorite beer ladies, which stunk as well. I tried to buy beers for the whole game so John wouldn't brood about the ticket, even though I knew he would. After 2 innings of hanging out with Marci and Tom, and John, I just kinda said "Fuck it,"and went for an inning to say hi to Jack and his mom, and Barbara with her friend, whose name I need to learn so I'm not rude., as well as the guys that sit behind Jack. I knew Brian, his brother, and Mike's brother (whose name I forgot too sigh) One of the girls with them was new, but she seemed nice. Started playing "Take Five" with them, which I won't explain here, except to say it's all Jack's idea lol. After, I went to grab more beers, and headed up the other stairs to say hi to Henry and his family, Kristin and her sister, and Christina and her parents. I didn't get a chance to say hi to the guy who wears the Hip Hip shirt really, and I felt terrible about it.
Maybe I should actually talk about the game lol? It was really a well-played game. I don't know how many times I have said it in past blogs, but I absolutely love how our section just comes alive at the right moments. 2 strikes, and people are standing, clapping, yelling. I honestly feel sometimes like it's the noise of our section that starts the crowd going. Regardless of the truth of that statement, it's a pretty heady feeling, and it makes going so much more better. Adam, the guy who sits to the right of us, was talking about how he loves that we get along in our section, in comparison to his seats for the Eagles, where he says everyone hates each other. I don't know if John and I would have kept going year after year if the people sucked.
I'm pretty sure I've said this before somewhere too (or at least thought it a lot), but I always feel some apprehension sitting anywhere else in the Stadium. The bleachers for the most part sucked. Left field pretty much anywhere always sucks. There have been times when I'm there by myself since friends have left early or something, and I'm doing hip hips by myself , since the rest of the crowd does nothing. The seats next to the non-alcohol seating? That was awful, and against some rule of nature. Field level, where the guy sitting next to me had a hearing problem, and didn't want me to yell in a playoff game? You have to be freakin' kidding... Give me right field nosebleeds any day of the week. I've been sitting in them for what, 11-12 years now? I love it. Makes me so nervous about next year. I really hope we can get a group together somehow to get tickets close to each other.
Yeah, I really talked a lot about the game there. =p But Andy was really lights out. Of course I missed the Giambi homer cause I went to go get beers for me and John. End of the game was good. Mo did the usual, owning everyone. At the end of the game, a bunch of us got together for a pic, which is on our Facebook Group page. I look like a fat fuck, but I guess the camera doesn't lie lol. It sounds so silly to say, but the sense of community and camaraderie in our Section really is the best. When Christina posted on our FB page, that "this is the greatest group I have joined, ever," I wanted to laugh at the outlandishness of it, but at the same time, it was just cool that she thought it. She's right in a way: this group by far on FB is the one I care about and post on the most. Marci put up the pic last night, and even John posted about his change of status to the "Ambassador of Section 23" lmao.
I think that covers the basics of this past Sunday. Oh one more thing, I ended up seeing my buddy Colm again in the lot, and we drank beers and had a great time (stupid cops had left, thank goodness.) John brought up a point that I had thought as well, that it's ridiculous to bother people about drinking before the game, where they have 3+ hours usually to sober up in the Stadium(Slight Tangent: That was the fastest game we have ever been at, clocking in around 2 and half hours) , but have no one doing sobriety checks on the way out, when they are needed. The illogic of the whole thing escapes me. Usually it's me flying off the handle about stuff, but John was really put out by it, since our tailgating is one of the things that makes our Sundays so much fun. I hope they don't enforce this the rest of the year, because it will make games so much more suckier, and more expensive to boot.
Good times. Except for the ticket thing, it really was a great Sunday. 10-0 on Sundays (since we're not counting that sun. night game against the Mets). Good times with the Section. Seeing old friends. And a great pitching performance by the Yanks. Did I miss anything? If I did, throw me a comment. =p
